After graduating from the Parisian school of Mazarin, in 1749, began working as secretary to the Treasury. In 1756, d'Eon was used as spies on the orders of Louis XV and carried out important missions in Russia and England, sometimes disguised as a woman.

In his memoir La vie militaire, politique et Privée account Mademoiselle d'Eon was born as a woman, but his father forced him to stop by a man to inherit.

The medical examination after his death revealed that he was anatomically male.
