I think that whole story about winter during the operation Typhoon is little bit overrated. It's true that low temperatures slowed down German advance, but not as much as it been told.
Actually, it helped on some areas by turning muddy roads into solid service.
I even had some meteorological reports which says that extreme temperatures were not issue on entire front line.

But, Russian winter became powerfull ally when Russians launched counter attack more-less surprising germans in their foxholes and winter shelters.

Btw, Russian were cold too...
