Things I learned recently from CMFI/GL battles

Some recent lessons in CMFI/GL scenario and QB's...

1. Smoke shells from 75mm Infantry guns are pretty much useless for a smoke screen ... even when there's only a light breeze

2. When defending ... even if you are convinced your AT gun doesn't have LOS to some obscure part of the map, set that firing arc anyway -- just in case he starts pot-shotting at enemy armour at ridiculous ranges and gives his position away

3. When attacking on a map with iffy LOS and you just can't get those spotters in any good positions ... some TRP's are a damn good investment!

4. One way to virtually guarantee your tanks getting immob'ed ... send them swanning through vineyards -- not such a good idea.

... feel free to add your own.

Your artillery might shatter that company. Your tanks may break that platoon. Your base of fire will rout that squad. But the two men sitting in a slightly off hole/building portion will murder you every time.

It is advisable when playing Johnsy to have your 1st team show up, though I have a funny feeling that fact is not limited to CMFI...

When starting a quick battle with time set to "December" and snow, the soldiers don't wear greatcoats...?

 Oooops! - Found it! You'll have to use the pull down menu on the lower side
of your purchasing menu/purchasing screen - and there you may choose the option
"greatcoat". So the units are not "automatically" equipped with greatcoats in
winter.

True for CMBN and CMFI - - I never noticed that walls that have only a door and no windows can still be fired through. I was advancing some infantry up to this building and did not think any enemy inside could see or fire at me. It must simulate someone leaning out the door and firing????

Definitely, however I'm pretty sure it's limited like having only one window on a face of a building to shoot through. Also makes it's really risky for anyone shooting out as any incoming fire is focused on the one point rather than spread across multiple contacts/windows. That's how I've experienced it anyway.

Interesting notice! Didn't know that and would have felt secure while approaching to the "blind" side of a house.

Maybe it can be explained this way: The soldiers inside the house have made little holes/rifle slits into the backwall for not to become "surprise attacked". ;)

But it's annoying that the number of windows and their direction don't have a meaning.

I see shooting through multiple windows of one side of a building all the time. Just don't forget to set a facing or covered arc order I the desired direction. But be aware other sides of the building will then be unattended.

Lesson learned recently in a match against Dutch Grenadier: those M10 are deaf and blind when buttoned up. They sometime not even recognize formerly spotted Tanks...

Yes, it's often very worthwhile to lay down haevy MG fire on enemy open-topped TD's and Marders (especially if possible from higher firing position)... button them up and even take out a crew member or two :)

Does not look like it is limited to one or two men shooting out the door. As long as there is a door everyone can shoot out of that side of the building. In fact as long as there is a single opening almost everyone in the squad will fire out that side of the building.

from my very bad performance against a French player : a buttoned regular panther doesn't see a Sherman 105mm when it's 40m away from it, in the middle of the STREET !
