For non-pilots, these controllers are in Nevada and are each flying a drone thousands of miles away in the combat zone in Iraq and Afghanistan. Their left hand is on the throttle controlling the drone's engine. Note all the buttons which perform various tasks without removing the hand from the throttle.

The right hand is flying the plane. This is modern warfare.

Today's headline: 'Missiles fired from Nevada controlled drone
aircraft kill Taliban leader'

Watch how it's done. Turn the speakers on & watch in full screen:

Nicely produced but my money's on it being a fake, it looks like they've simply lashed together bits of PC flight simulation footage..:)

Looks like it should, found this of the Predator 2 on Future Weapons

Plus if you google search for UAV pilot station, you get plenty of pics of them. I say that the first vid looks real enough, but what do I know.

Well, only thing that is impossible is "flying a drone thousands of miles away in the combat zone" part.
Radio waves should travel via satellites, which could involve some kind of data compression, and noticeable lag....which is not acceptable of course...
On the other hand, same stations on the ground, few kilometers from combat zone, has no reason not to work.
This is basically big and high tech RC controller.

Gives a whole new feeling to ..

"He was the first kid on the block to get a confirmed X-Box kill"

Maybe just as well, becasue what i see coming into the army of the younger generation is that the lot is a lot fatter, less fit and can't handle being without te modern luxurys.
Our society is getting to soft. Damn, i used to grab a football and go out to play. these days they play footie on their PS3...

Still in NZ sport is big which is nice, but your right kids these days are more computer savy and spend way to much time on the PS3 and PC. But I can't talk, I am 33 years old and spend way to much time on this thing. lol. When I was young we were way to poor to have any form of a computer, the nearest thing was that old school gaming system with two dials to hit a ball on the tv. PONG I think it was called.

I never would have thought at 33 years old, I was going to be saying "back in my day ......

Yeah I'm a PC flight simmer and can spot computer-generated images a mile off.
The multiple screens look impressive, but lots of flight simmers have got multiple screens at home nowadays..:)

Check out the comments at Youtube, plenty of other people are saying it's phoney- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Dxn_qEs_p8

Youtubers says that everything is fake :)

I think the first one is probably a simulator. If you notice the kill on the pick up truck, it went from moving to instantly stopped when it got hit. It should have rolled to a stop. Other than that, I believe it is probably quite accurate, just a simulation. The United States military has spent a vast amount of money on high quality simulators in the last thirty years and before anyone fires off any expensive ammunition you can bet they have been in the simulator several times.

Simulator should look and feel like a real thing. This looks like gamers heaven :)
Something i or POS wanted in room to play flight simulations :)

If its a sim, where do I get it, lol. Nothing like flying unseen above your enemy and sending down the hellfire of death.

Some people did remarkable things with few monitors and Saitek flight gear :)

I said Saitek just because thay are making superb flight controlers...
