"The 30-year Wars of the Roses were sparked by a peasant revolt crushed by King Henry VI. The king succeeded his father, Henry V, when just nine months old and he showed little interest in the affairs of state as demonstrated by rampant corruption at home and the loss of lands in France. A peasant revolt sparked in Kent and marched on London, but the Henry believed the instigator to be his dynastic rival Richard, Duke of York who was serving in Ireland. When Richard returned to England, he sought to end the rife corruption and so began the Wars of the Roses: the red roses of Henry’s Lancastrians against the white roses of Richard’s Yorkists. The civil wars – which cost the lives of 105,000 – were finally ended when Henry Tudor defeated Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field on 22nd August 1485 and joined the feuding families by marrying Elizabeth of York on 18th January 1486."

Have any of you U.K.'ers been to Bosworth field?
