It is actually a photo of Jupiter I took through a telescope during an astronomy viewing session a few years ago. Unfortunately when I chose the image as my avatar, I did could not enlarge it. Maybe I will try again.
I cropped the original image to reduce the black space around the planet. More recognisable as Jupiter now.
Big ball of gas. Wannabe star that could not quite ignite.
