Unity of Command on Steam

This operational war game is now available on Steam for 20 bucks. Just picked it up last night and will give it a try today.
 
From what I saw on the Steam site, the Unity of Command was a expansion mod "Stalingrad" for the game Unity of Command and not the whole game itself. I was thinking of purchasing it, but held off until Steam also offer the game/Unity of Command too. Would be very interest to know if you're able to play Unity of Command by just purchasing the mod "Stalingrad".
 
It is a stand alone game; you don't need anything else to play it. Haven't played it a lot yet, but it seems pretty complete. Scenarios cover operations from Blau to Manstein's backhand blow at Kharkov.

No problem. If you end up purchasing the game know that I'd be interested in trying it multiplayer. I still have to learn the rest of the rules but that shouldn't take much longer

I watched it in a YouTube Video but I must say this is not my cup of tea.

 
Played through first campaign mission, which is the German counterattack against the Izyum bulge preceding Blau. The game mechanics are extremely simple to learn, which I count as a plus. Perhaps almost too simple. It models the effects of combined arms and supply lines rather well, showing why operational encirclement was the most effective kill generator of the war. Not the best eastern front game (especially when compared to some of the great boardgames out there), but it does model command decisions and dilemmas of the era fairly well, without much time or effort required to learn and play it.

Rico, since I don't know if you already have the "Red Turn" expansion, I've chosen the only available dedicated PvP scenario of the main game, which is "2nd Kharkov PvP".

You will play the Soviets (since by starting I automatically got assigned the Axis).
You can connect to the game by chosing "Connect to Game" in the main menu.
Please select "P2" and put in the code I will send to you separately via PM.

Good luck, my first strikes have already been carried out. :D
I think you can watch my turn in "History Mode".
