Currently traveling over holiday season to visit wife's family in Croatia and now in Vienna for a few days.
Spent an afternoon at the Heeresgeschichtliches Museum... the Austrian Military History Museum -- fascinating place.
Tons of unusual stuff from the 15th century onwards - Turkish wars and 30 Year's War on through to Napoleonic and 19th century to WW1.
Quite a building inside - the central hall used for lectures.
Used to be the city arsenal built outside the original city outskirts after the 1848 revolutions and uprisings.
They even have the car that archduke Ferdinand was assassinated in in Sarajevoand even his uniform with bullet holes.
WW2 exhibition was sadly closed for renovation and their tank collection closed as well.
Even have a naval hall as well - one doesn't usually associate Habsburgs with navies.
Nevef heard of thus before: Models of war galleys of a riverine fleet used to patrol and fight the Ottomans on the Danube.
Will post some more pictures when I get back to my PC in the new year.
