What was the international reaction to France's defeat in WW2?

I'm also interested to hear what you fellas have to say about it. I could always stand to learn more the history of WW2.
 
I would have to say disbelief. France was long thought to be the counterweight that would keep Germany in check. It was inconceivable at the time that France could be overrun as quickly as it was.
