Where is that and what battle/time period ?
Vietnam (French Indo-China as it was then) in May 1954 -- climactic battle and defeat of the French by the Vietminh.

My guess was not so wild -- pic looked postwar/fifties (with LIFE logo) and setting looked Asian -- I couldn't think of any major WW2 paradrops that journalists would've photographed from the air -- so nearest guess was French Indochina war and Dien Bien Phu was only battle I could think of...LOL

Interesting thing that in both Stalingrad and Dien Bien Phu you had German soldiers fighting -- there were quite a few German Wehrmacht and Waffen SS vets in the Foreign Legion at the time.
