World of Tanks MMO

Just stumbled over this: http://www.worldoftanks.com/ - Anyone already heard about this one? I wonder if it's worth the time (and money), although it does look interesting. On second thought, a lot of games do that these days...

I've not played World of Tanks because I'm not into "massive multiplayer team games".
This from the link-
World of Tanks is a team-based massively multiplayer online action game.....it’s all about teamwork...... combining your combat skills with those of the other members of your team..

Well, 30 vs. 30 is hardly what I'd call 'massively multiplayer' but I agree it IS pretty hard to get people organized with these kind of games. You can manage , though - all you need is a headset and a functioning VOIP server. :)

..it IS pretty hard to get people organized with these kind of games..:)

Yes, as you know, we tried to organise online games of Armed Assault 1 between FGM members last year, and although we had fun at first, it ultimately failed for several reasons-
1- Not everybody was available to play at specific times, especially with time zone differences
2- We failed to carefully discuss our plans, tactics, objectives and individual duties within the squad beforehand, meaning when the game started we all ran around like headless chickens
3- Some people wanted to play with WW2 mods, but some preferred Modern.
4- Some people insisted we all use voice headsets, but other didn't want to.

Here's a screenshot from one of our multiplay games, i'm driving the Hummer while Bootie rides shotgun with the 50-cal and shoots up a terrorist jeep..

ARMED ASSAULT 1 THREAD- http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/thefgmforum/showthread.php?37-Armed-Assault

You're right with all of these, but one fact remains: without using headsets (and therefore being able to talk to one another) you will never be able to properly play these games. You just don't have the time to chat while firing at the enemy and you also know that no plan survives first contact, so you need to adapt to the situation in the game - and tell that to others.
Were we to try it again, I'm 100% sure it would work differently this time since we have some experience now and know what does work and what doesn't. I just posted this here because 1) I'm a tank nut, 2) it's completely free and 3) because of 1 and 2, I'm gonna give it a try and thought that someone might be interested as well with whim I could maybe coordinate team play.

Armed Assault 1 (below) will take some beating, it looks beautiful for a start-

But what has 'Armed Assault' got to do with 'World of Tanks'? :tongue1:

@AirborneBob: I think they're in beta or something. Let's wait and see. Although I can already tell you it won't be historically accurate. :)

When a thread about any game is started (such as this thread about WoT) it's only logical to discuss how it compares to other games of the genre such as AA1..:)
Incidentally, in your first post you said WoT is not free, but in post 5 you say it is free. Which post is correct?

Hm... Well, being meant for multiplay is about the only thing I can see these two games have in common, actually.

Whatever, I THOUGHT it was pay-to-play (a lot of these games are), but the developers said it'll be completely free to download and play.

I've taken a look at the 'tech' trees - very obscure and sometimes outright nonsense vehicles on it, but most players will relish the possibility to drive around in a Maus and to waste everything before them... Here are the links:

This one will certainly be NO simulation, rather an action shooter in which you use tanks instead of being a single grunt. Meaning: all tanks will only be crewed by ONE player and you can't be a tank crew together. Too bad...
