X-Com Enemy Within - Coming in November...

Looks good. Hold us informed, Facman! The original X-Com was one of my favourite games. Sadly the following parts increased only on graphic and all other decreased.

Greetings :)

Any thoughts on Enemy within? I have only played an hour or two so I haven't built the new labs yet. Personally I don't care for the new MELD objectives on the maps. They make you advance at a reckless pace just to grab them before they explode. Kind of on the fence about the medals that you can award to your troops. Seems like a good idea but they give them out like candy which makes them into generic stat boosters. The new voices are a nice touch just wish I knew what the hell my Russian sniper was yelling about (either he was pointed out aliens or he found a nip of vodka in his pocket, hard to tell with Russian). Will have to scroll through the different voices to see if there are different accents for English. Right now my Brit, Aussie, and Scotsman all have the same American accents which kind of annoys me. The game is still a lot of fun and with the difficulties starting at hard and progressing to the devils own nightmare, the replay value is huge.

Enemy Within appears to have upped the difficulty, or I'm simply out of touch. You start seeing higher level alien opponents a lot quicker now while your guys still only have basic bullet based weapons.

My first attempt at a campaign run through and I'd lost a third of my member countries in a month, half my squad in the med-bay and human terrorists knocking at my door.

Great game. :D

Yes, it is more difficult. Almost a third of the countries are tipping toward leaving the consortium already and I can't build the Satellite relays fast enough. It appears the Aliens are a wee bit more numerous and my guys are worse shots too. They changed the skill trees as well. But I'm enjoying the hell out of having my arse handed to me.

I thought I was tracking down the same path with my second play through but things are starting to look up. (Though in XCOM that usually means it's all about to go to hell...)

About half of my council members have satellites already and I'm "rolling in cash" at least at this point in the game. Only one country has
'orange' level panic (Nigeria) which already has satellite coverage so that's a little concerning. Two big differences this time, North America starting location and Panic Missions are awesome! (If they occur in the right region).

- North America gives you an even number of new scientists and engineers per month. Europe, where I based last time only gives you scientists. The trade off with North America is it takes a long time to get to and from missions.
- Engineers are always key. Scientists in the early game not so much.
- Always successfully complete Panic Missions, even if you lose one or two guys, as they bring down panic across the continent they occur in.

CM is taking a backseat at the moment. Too much awesome.

I'm on my 2nd run through as my 1st was a disaster after only a short time in. Many of the consortium countries are in orange status, even one (Australia) with satellite coverage.Definitely have to play more conservatively to preserve your men, and I don't push real hard for the Meld locations, as it usually causes an over extension of the small squads. So far I think the changes are making the game more enjoyable, but I haven't run into any Exalt forces yet.

I'm still looking pretty good and almost have universal satellite coverage and pulling in over $1000 a month from the council. Got sidetracked with the Triad related DLC missions which took my troops away from the main story for a while but the pay off was well worth it. Huge amount of resources to sell for base expansion. :D

Aye, my Situation board looks pretty much the same. Coming up on storyline branch, all hell is about to fall.
