Yet another aging wargamer ;).

Hi,
Well... I think you will all have heard it all before. I must be a “commodity item...” wargamer of a certain vintage, I am 56.
Started with Squad Leader in mid seventies followed by the usual suspects. Advanced Squad Leader and all those SPI titles with some of the more famous one off titles thrown in.
Then a break of about twenty years from wargaming but not from reading military history. Late ‘90s back to wargaming with some John Tiller games and then the great Combat Mission series.
Remain an unhinged fan of things Combat Mission and admire and very occasionally play Scourge of War, Command Ops and now Flashpoint Campaigns.
BTW... great to see the campaigns you run, the Normandy CMMC run by I think Steven Bailey was superb. You guys are clearly expert in such dark arts :).
Looks like a fantastic club, puzzled I didn’t find it earlier..
All the best,
Kip.

"Yet another aging wargamer..." HA HA HA!!!! :D

Hello Kip, welcome to THE FEW GOOD MEN!
Good to have you with us! :)

Joining this community was the right decision because Combat Mission is at it's best when played head to head (H2H) - as you already know! ;)
But in our download section you will also find a lot of new scenarios to play against the AI.

Enjoy the club and become a part of our community - there are many reliable gaming partners here, plenty of stuff to
check out and good people to meet. :)

Shorker, hi,
Thanks very much for your welcome.
There is lots and lots of great stuff here, sadly like many others no doubt, I will be limited by time. There is never enough time for interests and hobbies ; ).
Very glad I found your club...
All the best,
Kip.

G'day Kip and welcome aboard mate. It's good to see another member from the Battlefront Beta testing ranks here at our great club.

Hi,
Yup... thanks for the welcome everyone...
Great to see some familiar names... ; ).
Hope I will have time to actually get involved, but either way am very happy to found the club...
All the best,
Kip.
PS. Have now turned my email on as I see many do..

@kipanderson and what an excellent vintage 56 is mate - if you don't mind me saying - we have the age and the board gaming collections in common - look forward to seeing you across the digital battlefield some time...

Richtig, hi,
Thanks for your comments... Yes... I knew that for a certain vintage I had a very standard wargaming history ; ).
I see that you are UK based, as many seem to be here. We must indeed have a game sometime but as for most no doubt time is the enemy.
Have you played CM live head to head using the pause-able Real Time or now in upgrade three of the engine Turnbased head to head live? I find the live, Turnbased flows best... keeps the pace going better than pause-able RT. I know PBEM is the most popular but find I don’t have the patience; ).
All good fun,
All the best,
Kip.

@kipanderson

Re the real time - I have played it once accidentally when i set up a H2H and couldn't get it to do turns - confusing since I was sure CM1 did. I think I get what you mean, I must admit that playing in turns does make it hard to feel the pace of the battle, which I think you see and feel much better when things just run. Having said that I am relatively new back to cm2, and I think the turn based pbem suits me using my time and still gaming much better.

The anticipation of a turn coming in is great, and when you multiply that up across a few games where you may be kicking ass and taking names in one, hanging in waiting for a critical kill in another, or simply being handed your ass in a third, it keeps you involved across a great variety of tactical situations. Since I signed up here in October I haven't looked back - it is great to have people like you and all the other guys who are up for a game and we all keep coming back for more.

Personally I also love the campaigns - I think it can be a struggle keeping people involved, but for me this is the context that is missing from some of the fights - and it adds a whole extra level of importance to some of your online battles. Anyway you have got me yaking on now - so enough of that. Enjoy the games - bon chance...
