This is a fictional battle which takes place in the mountains north of Florence in the winter of 1945. The US is trying to push the Germans farther north. They have been engaging in a series of battles all winter. The Germans have been tenacious and continue to hold out, even pushing back occasionally. Ahead lies the town of DiSaronno, thought to be lightly defended. It is the dead of winter with long nights and cold weather.
