June 13th, 1944. The II/508 Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR) attacks the town of Baupte to seize the bridges on the Sèves river.
US player versus German AI only (no German briefing).
Medium size map, duration 90 minutes.
Mods: for the maps to look like real Normandy, I use several mods. Whereas none of them are absolutely required to play, they really enhance the gameplay. These are:
- Juju’s walls
- Tanks a Lot’s CMBN buildings, churches and barns
- Mech.Gato’s flavour objects
- Wim & Falaise Normandy buildings
All these mods can be found at the CM mod warehouse.
REVIEW by KANDU:
Yesterday I completed playing this scenario and found it very enjoyable on a number of levels.
MAP: Very GOOD LOOKING. Very interesting due to the rolling terrain, arrangement of the variety of vegetation, use of mods, and flavor objects. Very PLAYABLE. Although it is bocage country, the author has left sufficient gaps and also used hedges to allow for adequate maneuvering to attack. BTW, the author has used bushes overlaid on hedges to make them visually indistinguishable from low bocage, the latter being impenetrable while the former can be crossed. TIP: To be able to visualize the hedges press ALT-T to temporarily removed the trees and bushes. TACTICAL INTEREST: One other thing that I particulary enjoyed about this map is that the arrangement of the buildings and bocage created a lot of dangerous keyhole positions.
SCENARIO LENGTH & VICTORY CONDITIONS: I achieved an American Tactical victory, and that only just in the last 5 minutes of play. Throughout the game there was the (enjoyable) tension and worry about achieving any victory level at all. Given the medium map size, terrain, objectives, force size and time available there was the constant question about could the men move Normal to preserve their strength or could they move Quick to satisfy the time limit. Suffice it to say that there is enough time – just. The scenario is winnable.
TACTICAL TIP (NOT A SPOILER): The rolling terrain, vegetation and prevailing RAIN, make it easy for the German defenders to hide and disappear from view after going to ground. Be cautious but not so cautious that you run down the scenario clock before securing the rail bridge.
ENJOY!!!
Thank you Kandu for the detailed overview and the kind words. I hope everybody elese will find the scenario as enjoyable as you did!
