Under the Thumb?ANSWER - Falconry Term.

Question-"Under the thumb"

Oh man, I'm scared...:scared:

Is it related to "rule of thumb" which comes from the size of a stick used to discipline one's wife being no bigger around than the thumb? So being under the thumb is to be under someone's discipline?

The term under the thumb relates back many years when falconry and birds of Prey were a popular sport among the gentry....when the birds were on a leash, it was customary to hold the the leash under the thumb so as to keep control of the bird, and then of course it lent it's name to all sorts of thing's.....the most popular being for Husbands who are told regular they are under the Thumb
