Got the DVD boxed deluxe edition of the Pacific from the wife and kiddies.

Just about to start with disc 1.

I managed to watch the first 3 episodes on TV but then work made me miss the next 2 and I was not about to start again with missing episodes in the middle.

I know it got mixed reviews but I enjoyed it.

Excellent!! I don't subscribe to HBO so I have not seen any of this yet. The general consensus of the reviews I have heard are that it is not in the same category as Band Of Brothers, but I still will watch it. It is on my Holiday wish list.

I liked it as well, but think they went off the rails a bit and spent too much time talking about how "war is bad."
A little more action of almost any kind would have been welcome and an improvement IMHO. It does have its moments though.
Still, it's worth your time if you don't go in with the mind set of comparing it to BoB.

Its hard not to have that mind set I think when every advertisement for it mentions BoB.

Us real men need explosions, car chases and scantily clad women.

Just watched the first episode of Iwo Jima and man, who said there was not enough explosions... whoa.

just finished them all after a long night of watching. I gotta say that I loved it and was glad to receive it. I also read the companion book which was by Stephen AMBROSE's son Hugh. I thought that was a good read, as it covered a lot that was missed out on the mini series.

Glad you enjoyed it - -I must give it a second viewing... missed a lot of it when it was on TV here... also had a hard time getting into the characters, which I think was BoB's great strength.

Your right, the characters in BoB came out more strongly and at time felt I was bouncing round. BoB had characters whose stories grew from week to week.

That said it was still an outstanding series !!
