Black Sea...

"BLACK SEA" is now announced for mid January.

Text from the BFF:

"Hey guys!

With Christmas coming up, I figured that you guys deserved an update on where the release status of Black Sea stands.

As veteran customers know, we rarely set a release date for our products, instead preferring to release a game when we deem it to be finished. However, internally we do set a general time frame that we wish to release within. You may have noticed that over the last several years, our games tended to be released about four to six weeks after pre-orders were opened. We are now closing in on the end of that six week period.

Our goal for Black Sea was a pre-Christmas December launch. However, as we draw closer to Christmas it has become clear that we need just a little more time to tie up the loose ends. Since the second half of December is a problematic time period for doing something as time consuming and demanding as going through the motions of releasing a game, we have decided to release Black Sea in mid January.

We really wanted to get Black Sea into your hands before Christmas, and many late nights / early mornings were worked through to make that happen. Ultimately though, we have had to make a tough call and decide that we would rather have the time available to tie up the last of the loose ends than try to rush Black Sea out before Christmas without the extra few days to ensure that we were releasing a quality product on day one.

We continue to be grateful for what is surely the most amazing customer base ever, and we are very eager to get Black Sea into your hands as soon as possible!

Chris"

Looking forward to CM returning to the modern setting. With current events once can only hope it wont escalate.

And after Black Sea, the next module in the modern series will be Baltic States. Any bets?

If they do an overhaul of "Shock Force", they could also do an overhaul of "CM Afghanistan" later (1980s setting) and then add some modern (2001 - 2014) modules to it like there are in "Shock Force": Marines, British Forces, NATO - fighting the Taliban.

Personally, I am really looking forward to this game. I was luke warm for a while, but between a few games of CMSF and watching ChrisND's videos, I am fired up for it.

Same here, I like what a see so far, and I am not a good enough player to worry about the bugs to much:rolleyes:

I am looking forward to Black Sea. However, I am worried about the dominance of US tanks making the game un-enjoyable. M1A2's with APS are going to be a bit too dominant on the battlefield I think.

Of course you could argue that the axis had the dominant tanks of ww2 but it didn't win them the war- I suspect NATO could realise that error in Black Sea...

Well from the AAR's I watched, any yahoo with a missile can take out a tank:rolleyes: if they can stay hidden for a while, and the range on these missiles is way larger than WW2 bazooka's and panzerfausts and I am terrified of those:p

Did you all see the latest videos from ChrisND already? I discovered them this evening only.

Seen the full blown battle AAR's that have been played since? :D
No, unfortunately not - I only found the "Black Sea full mission" part 1 and 2 as per above. Do you have a link for it maybe
or do you know the correct title of it? There is nothing on YT under "Black Sea AAR" "Black Sea Battle" etc.

Yes @Ithikial I have to say I wasn't going to go for this, despite the fact that I actually think it will play better than the WW2, mostly because I think the 'abstract' elements of drone and higher echelon spotting will mitigate the fact that the games spotting system simply isn't fit for purpose.

I am still uncomfortable with the scenario - and for a company with little resource I do wonder at developing dubious new material rather than working on keeping what they have up to date - they have already mentioned revamping Shock Force to the new engine. I just hope it sells enough to keep them going - as a group we have invested a lot in their survival.

@Richtig I agree with you on the spotting. In my current DAR, I lost a tiger to a m10 when both were in clear line of sight.

Probably best to look at the Twitch channel page.

@Ithikial: Watching it now! Thank you very much! :)

@Richtig , @Boomkow about the lost Tiger: Mates, in my opinion this is not enough information provided for to complain about the spotting.

What was the distance between the two tanks?
What was the experience level of the crews?
Were they both buttoned/unbottend?
Was there damage done to the optics of the Tiger earlier?
Did you toggle on/off smoke and trees/bushes that might have been in the way but invisible to the playr though?

Should answer some of those.

I am on the opposite side of the spectrum here. Don't get me wrong. I already pre-purchased the game to support the BF effort but am not super excited. Considering all the game engine updates since CMSF and CMA this game is a "super" leap forward. Considering what we already play with in CMBN and CMRT it is not really that impressive to me.

UAV's, electronic warfare, APS on vehicles, precision artillery, dismounting two or three man crews from vehicles for recon, SAM's, airburst munitions, etc... Do not get me wrong these are all cool features but I really do not feel that if I had these in CMSF that my experience with that game would have that much better. I know I am sounding like I am "raining on the parade" but it is just not WOWING! me right now.

Not sure what I was expecting on this one to twerk my fancy.

On a far side note: It looks like AP rounds are still being stopped by trees. In part one of ChrisND's new vid you can clearly see a round getting detonated in some foliage. I put up a post on BF about bushes detonating AP rounds in a little test scenario that I created but of course the next few posts after were smart arse comments. The thread then got derailed of onto another tangent. I brought it back by posting the pick below that I took so lets see if that produces anything of worth.
