The Saville Report (yes, yet another report, yawn) came out this year about the 'Bloody Sunday' shooting dead of 14 Irish protesters in Londonderry by Brit Paras (for no loss to themselves) on Jan 30th 1972.
In the report, Father Edward Daly (seen in the pic above escorting civilians to safety), gives sworn testimony that AT LEAST ONE GUNMAN WAS FIRING AT THE BRIT TROOPS.
Excerpt from Daly's testimony in the 2010 Saville Report-

Yet for many years Daly had been saying nobody fired at the troops!
Here's what he said 38 years ago-

"They call themselves an army,” he told the BBC that day. “It was utterly disgraceful. They were firing lead bullets in all directions. There was nothing fired at them, I can say that with absolute certainty because I was there. The people were running in all directions. Most of them had their backs to them and they just opened fire."

Daly later became Bishop and I recently emailed him at the Derry Diocese offices asking for his comment, and got this reply-

"Dear sir
Further to your email, Bishop Daly has been in contact with me. He asked me to let you know that he has now retired and does not wish to comment further on this matter.
His sworn testimony on the events of that day is a matter of public record and is to be found in the Saville Report published earlier this year (2010). It can be read in full on

I trust that this is of assistance.
Yours sincerely
Rev. Paul McCafferty"

That's clear enough then, Daly (now aged 77) is standing by what he said in the 2010 Saville report, namely BRIT TROOPS WERE SHOT AT.

PS- To read Daly's full testimony, go to the Saville Report at

and type 'edward daly' into the search box,
then scroll slightly down and click 'H_005.pdf'

I remember the report coming out POS in the news here, but there was no mention of the gunman, surely this gives some balance to the story. How was it received over there ?

The general Brit public are bored with the whole Bloody Sunday thing mate because there have been so many reports, enquiries, claims, counterclaims and TV docus over the years and it's become totally clapped out ancient 38-year old news, nobody really gives a damn about it any more, me included..:)
Needless to say, Daly's sworn testimony about seeing troops being shot at has been quietly brushed under the carpet by the lefty Brit media and various anti-Brit groups.

My view is that when at least one gunman opened up on the Brit troops, the troops heard the shots and went ballistic, screaming "Gun gun gun!", and some (but not all) began firing into the crowd.
I can't believe the Paras would fire unless they were being shot at first.

I would say quietly swept under the carpet alright, it went unreported here, and that would be something I would pick up on.
