Maybe it was for cotton or something? I doubt nylon.
Or maybe they were nylon but good luck finding them anywhere ;)

I found this quote:
"Rayon or cotton stockings were worn, but not fondly, as they tended to sag around the knees and ankles. The rising popularity of slacks helped, but most women resorted to bare legs, often with ankle socks.
To simulate the look of nylons, some women used leg makeup from cosmetics companies such as Max Factor."

I was curious about how many coupons and how often you got a ration book.

‘Coupons and Points are our nightmare. My clothing coupons at the moment {April} number 34. I want a new coat (18) a new frock (10-12) Stockings (6) and I’ve more than finished my supply, which has to last me to the end of August.’
