Interestingly enough there was a plan to create such a thing. The plan was to construct the aircraft carrier out of ice and wood pulp so they were not just going to carve off a chunk of ice but still it was an aircraft carrier made of ice. This Canadian soldiers fire the salute over the graves of their countrymen who died in Dieppe, in Aug 1942. Maple leaves flown from Canada were strewn on the coffins, which were buried in UK.
I believe this is Holten, near Appeldoorn in central Holland.
Whilst my dad was in the army, we lived in Holland for a short time (1968-69), before moving on to Geilenkirchen, just over the border in Germany.
