Can't figure out the US

A mother of a 16 year old son friom Virginia got a 2 year jailsentence because she bought and served alcohol on his birthday party...

Which part don't you understand? The two year sentence, or the serving of alcohol at a 16 year old's birthday? Or, both?

The sentence is just about right. The travesty is the need for such a sentence, and its consequences. The kid, and siblings, if any, will either be in a single parent home for two years, or be sent to institutions or foster homes until mom is out of jail. Even then, she might not get them back, at least not right away.

That she served alcohol to 16 year olds is pretty stupid. I know in parts of the world a 16 year old having a beer or a glass of wine is no big thing. However, here, it is not appropriate.

Now, if she had let her 16 year old have a drink at home, with no one else around, then that is between the parent and child. Serving alcohol to minors, with or without parental permission is irresponsible.

Well i grew up in a province where one could buy beer in the corner store. I Bought beer at 13 years of age...told the clerk it was for my dad. Did I drink it ...yes sir...was i a fool yes sir...but I moved to Ontario where after 42 years of conservative rulle you had to be 18 to buy beer and then they changed it to 19 etc. I have never seen more problems with booze then I have here...may be i got it out of my system early... $ years for serving booze...LOL but let crooks off that steal and rape and murder...sounds like a country I don't want to live in.

I love Canada. Canadians are so quick to try and point out all of the faults of the United States and they think they have some kind of eutopia up there. We do have our faults down here, but lets face the fact that America is the greatest country in the Western Hemisphere and quite probably on Earth. Illegal immigrants from South Americans try and pour into America and those that make it in stop here because we are the best. I have never heard of Mexicans continuing North to the Canadian Border and sneaking in up there! They come here because of the opportunity and great personal freedom that we enjoy here.

In reality, Canada (and it's flawed quasi-socialistic system) only exists because of the good graces of the United States. If the United States chose too, we could conquer your country in a matter of weeks with minimal commitment of forces and there is nothing that you could do about it. I think it is that undeniable truth that makes some (2054172) Canadians have the inferiority complex that they have.

P.S- Take good care of Canada for us. Some day when we run low on resources, we will be coming to get yours.

First problem, you grew up in the Provinces...You guys have more issues with Alcohol, natives, and local violence in those parts than most of the upper-mid-west region of the USA.

As for what you just stated about our system, its a bit uncalled for, you guys have huge drug issues as well, numerous rapes, domestic violence disputes, and murder is still rampant. As I recall, Toronto has a great deal of homicides..and people get away with it.

If you believe Canada is free of all the bad things that you think run rampant in the U.S., think again.

However, in the big scheme of things Canada has about 11% of the population of the U.S. You can understand why those of us in the U.S. generally look upon Canada as just kind of quaint, but mostly immaterial when it comes to anything important. Enjoy the snow.

I did not say such a thing at all...we have the same issues as you folks.

We do have our faults down here, but lets face the fact that America is the greatest country in the Western Hemisphere and quite probably on Earth.
Who says you don't have a drug problem down there.

Beg to differ here sir...many do come to Canada through the US boarder. Once they see the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.

You know why we have provinces and you have states...it's easier for you to spell states.
We have all the same issues...and most of the guns that come into our country are from the USA... LOL

2054172, I think I have figured out your delusional problems. Based on your recent posts about the amount of snowfall that you have had lately I think it is safe to diagnose you with Cabin Fever.
Cabin fever is an idiomatic term for a claustrophobic reaction that takes place when a person or group is isolated and/or shut in, in a small space, with nothing to do, for an extended period (as in a simple country vacation cottage during a long rain or snow). Symptoms include restlessness, irritability, forgetfulness, laughter, and excessive sleeping, distrust of anyone they are with, and an urge to go outside even in the (less miserable) rain, snow or dark. Cabin fever can also be known as a term for a lack of sexual intercourse. The phrase is also used humorously to indicate simple boredom from being home alone.

I think that about sums it up.

I say that all this discussion is being orchestrated by Europeans, the moment u are weak enough we are going to invade and make the whole continent a European union colony

That´s what I love about USA: There´s only one answer to whatever problem you encounter: Military might.

I guess that´s what makes USA the greatest nation in the world and why all the rest of us feels so inferior.
LMAO

I sure wish that was the case some times. America goes to great lengths to try and resolve things with out the use of force. We got seventeen resolutions from the UN before we went into Iraq. Seventeen! That is a ridiculous amount of diplomacy that only telegraphed our intentions and gave our enemies time to hide weapons and clean up loose ends before our arrival.

Bane I don't know what your smoking but it has to be good. LMAO

I have often wondered what it would be like to grow up in a smaller country. Imagine the young jappanese student sitting in class and learning about history. How hard would it be mentally to accept that only one country in the world was ever nuked and it was your country. And it happened not once, but twice. That would have to be pretty demoralizing.
I guess I can understand your inferiority complex....or were you kidding?

Lord Bane

One thing we all forget is we are really one big family. Issues we all have and in general we all get along. We just have to look at the USA as the big loud mouth cousin. nice to have around in a fight but not at social gatherings.

Not we....you.

Yeah, I can live with that...LOL.

If there was nothing more than serving alcohol to minors and there were no other incidence other than a hangover, I think it's b.s. for her to serve any jail time over it. There maybe other circumstances not referenced that led to that outcome.

We give probation for child molesters, thieves, vandals, embezzlers, manslaughter, assault and a long list of "real" crimes whose victims were not willing participants.

Most of the legislators from every state were legally drinking beer while still in high school. These are the same legislators who routinely insist that teens be treated as adults in matters of responsibility and treated as children in matters of priviledge. These are the legislator who want to legalize narcotics and make cigarettes illegal.

She would have been better off working for an organization like ACORN trying to arrange small business loans and housing for a pimp who is smuggling under age girls for a prostitution ring and still claim them as dependents on his tax return. Nothing happens to you when that occurs. Now, had she served those tax deductible underage, illegal alien prostitutes wine spritzers....off to the electric chair.

Sorry, was beginning to rage against the growing American bureaucracy.

(..deep breath...let out...deep breath..let out)
