When I look at the photos of the soldiers, especially the early war Germans, I am hit by the knowing that most of them did not last many months or years after the photo. What a waste of life.

Well, that Russian probably didn't make it either.... very unlikely he survived.

Maybe the Russian survived a few years in a German POW camp.. Maybe the next day he was just lined up against the wall of a wooden Russian shack and shot.

I wonder how long this SS squad survived... Did they stick together throughout the whole war, slowly being picked off? Doubt any of them survived the war...
