It's that time of year again.

The Monterey Jet Center Auction
13 - 14 August 2025
Monterey Jet Center - Monterey, CA

As much as I like the 2018 Bugatti Chiron, the red 1957 BMW 507 and the red 1963 Ferrari 250 GT, I’m placing my bid on the pair of Aston Martins, the 2020 DBS GT and the 1963 DB4 GT.
I’m going to start at $112 and work my way up to $350.

Is that mtk I see bidding on that Ferrari?

I was going to bid but they told me I needed more than $1000 up front to qualify.
And I really had my heart set on that '56 Mercedes Gullwing.

About a week ago or so I was out on the freeway and heard this roar. I swear it must have been
a quarter of a mile away. Shortly, very shortly, this all black Lambo screamed past me on the right.
I've never heard an engine like that out in the wild.

I'll put my bid in for the Ferrari 365 GTB. I can just see myself screaming down the Miami streets, Phil Collins blaring out of the speakers, and I'm pretending my name is Crockett

Probably somebodies boss...
LOL Oh yeah that's for sure.

Two related car and boss stories.
The first company I worked at, stock options were pretty normal for new hires and from time to time employees got grants too. One year the grants were due again and they were a pittance compared to previous years. The CEO said they didn't want to cancel them but times were tough so he had to reduce them. Grumble grumble we got it. The thing is about four months later he bought himself a fully loaded Lincoln Navigator (>$70K back when you could get a family car for <$10K).

We nicknamed the vehicle the "screw you mobile".

Fast forward 30+ years later, new company, new boss. He used to joke that once the company hit $10M in revenue he was going to get a Tesla. He did that for years and when we did hit that number he leased two. Once for himself and one for the company and we all got turns having a Model X for a week at a time. It was fun.

I was reading about this series today and the cars used at the time. It's interesting to know. I'd like to share:

"During the five seasons of the series, Don Johnson drove two Ferraris: a 1972 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider during the first season and a Testarossa during the final season. Or at least, those vehicles resembled those models.

Let's start by saying that the 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider seen in the first two seasons of the series wasn't a Ferrari.

The revised story tells us that the series producers couldn't reach an agreement with the Italian brand's representative in the USA, which is why, instead of spending between one hundred and two hundred thousand dollars to buy the cars, they decided to create replicas.

To do so, they took two Chevrolet Corvette C3s, one from 1976 and the other from 1981, both equipped with a 350-hp 5.7-liter V8 engine and a three-speed automatic transmission, to which they applied custom-made fiberglass panels. The interior was also modified, as was the hood. One of these replicas was used for close-ups; the other for long-distance shots and action scenes.

It is claimed that during the first broadcasts of the series, experts could tell that they were replicas, but over time they were improved. There was clear evidence of the "deception" in, for example, the front, where the screws were incorrectly placed, and in the type and location of the door handles and locks. This was also evident in the rear wheel arches and the shape of the trunk lid. Even the placement of the prancing horse emblems was incorrect, and the interior featured seats with integrated headrests instead of the separate ones found in the original.

The series was so successful worldwide that the participation of non-Ferrari Ferraris on the small screen reached Enzo's ears, who was outraged to see the success that vehicles that were a rough copy of his product were achieving, and acted accordingly: he immediately offered the series producer two brand new Testarossas in exchange for the disappearance of those replicas".

And of course Don Johnson was happy.

Even though everyone knew the 365 was a copy, I was still disappointed as a kid when the testarossa took its place. The 365 was such a pretty car, and worked so well with Don Johnsons hair :ROFLMAO:
