This looks kinda the same as the V2.11 update.
I shall update this evening

Bootie, the latest CMFI patch looks like v1.12, and not v2.12. Am I missing something?

There were two patches released today: 1.12 for CMFI and 2.12 for CMBN, bringing both games (confusingly) to the same state.

Hold on, Fellas, do we really need to? This is a comprehensive patch for if you are installed up to 2.0 (for CMBN), but for those of us who have CMBN, CW and MG, and did the 2.0 upgrade installed and added the 2.11 patch, I don't think we need to install this one. It's as clear as mud, but the BFC Forum thread (per YankeDog--Senior Member and Beta Tester) implies that we don't.

Could be they took 2.11 and added in the few minor corrections needed resulting from that patch, but why do that instead of just making a mini-patch for the minor fixes????

This should not interfere with any games in progress will it?

If you're looking at this thread, I don't think that's what he's saying. As I understand it, all released CM patches are considered mandatory. It's a comprehensive patch containing everything up to 2.11 plus some additional fixes.

You're correct, Holman. YankeeDog clarified (when I asked if I needed it since I was good upto and through 2.11):

"'Need' it, no. But the 2.12 patch does include fixes and improvements over and above the 2.11 patch, so you'll probably want to install it eventually. I can't speak to problems some are having with the 2.12 patch as I did not have any. It's might be an issue isolated to certain hardware/OS setups, or it could be something more widespread. If you are concerned, there is certainly no harm in waiting a little bit to see how things shake out before applying the patch."

Hang Fire.

It does recommend you remove all mods on saving. In addition to save games from menu ie "in game", download 2.12, then to continue game and save as normal.

2.12 is pretty important to be honest as it fixes a number of little niggles plus improves graphical performance.

Interesting updates, these v2.12 for CMBN and v1.12 for CMFI.

They completely replace the earlier v2.11 and v1.11 updates for these games (you won't find these versions any more on the BFC download website).
Internally (from the games perspective), both versions are the same, e.g. games created under CMBN v2.11 report the same internal version as the ones created under v2.12. So I guess that you even could continue playing games with an opponent who still has v2.11 installed.
Also, Vin's Animated Text mod which has been updated for versions v2.11 (CMBN) and v1.11 (CMFI), still seems to work in the new versions (I just tried this with CMBN v2.12). So it seems that the Strings.txt has not been touched for this update.

In conclusion: These new versions are basically hotfixes for problems which have been introduced with patches v2.11 and v1.11, but instead of doing a hotfix only, BFC has decided to release a new version as an all-inclusive-patch, replacing the "buggy" all-inclusive-versions v2.11 and v1.11.

Just one question --- I am thinking of getting a new computer in a couple of weeks -- when I re-install all my CMx2 , do I just then add the latest two patches?

That's a yes for CMFI, just install the base game, then the GL module and patch 1.12.

For CMBN, things are little bit more complicated. I suggest reading page 9 of the CMBN Market Garden Manual, which explains how to do a re-install of CMBN.

You won't have to install the v2.11 CMBN and v1.11 CMFI patches, since like I said earlier, they seem to have been withdrawn by BFC and all you can get now (and all you need) are the v2.12 and v1.12 patches.
The communication on this could be, as usual, be more clear by BFC.
