Decisive Campaigns: Barbarossa

Its on my wishlist, but will wait until its on sale...
I liked the previous campaign "Case Blue" already very much. However I never had the time to play the full campaigne...
IMHO its a very good operatinal engine with a lot of immersion. Thumps up!

This game is must-have for me!

I have played predecessor DC: Blue Case (still very good game also). When dev team announced "Barbarossa" I start to watch their devs diary. I immediately understood that this will be unique game and fresh wind for strategic genre. The first comments confirm my assumption!

I will buy it this month. I will not wait for sale. Really not! I want to support devs. I usually wait for sales in case of AAA games because they do not worth the price in most cases and big companies didn´t need my money (even if they don´t know it). But devs of the game like Barbarossa need each euro/dollar and I like to pay him all price because I want them continue their effort. Also I want to express that I appreciate their work.
Please, support your devs also if you want them to publish high-quality deep strategy games not only AAA casual bullshits and pay all price!

Rico, the complexity is not so huge. Of course you need some time to be master but I think that it is well balanced - fun and deep.

Good point, mate. I have to think about purchasing this one again...
These games deserve in fact much more attention by the wargamer community! Btw: DC: CASE BLUE is on sale for 20€ at the moment...;-)

Why better? This is what they call oldskool...;)

In fact I really don't know many turn-based, hex-field-based games that look really good!
During the last years I played just one game that impressed me with its graphics: UNITY OF COMMAND.
But as much as I liked the graphics, as much did I dislike the absence of Fog of War in this game.
Without FOW this game lost nearly every appeal to me...:(

In the end I can only draw the well-known conclusion: graphics are still of secondary importance within this genre.

To be honest, I like the artwork of DC: Case Blue and Barbarossa and dont think it is that bad.
I guess in the end its all about lacking resources of the developers. They just have to decide where to spent the most money: engine or graphics?
However this is what I learnt from the Battlefront forum... ;-)

I bought this game in December (with a 15% Matrix voucher for being a customer for 4 years .. quite nice).
It's very easy to play (even for the number of counters, but a turn is definitely do-able in an evening).
It's not so easy to win, even on easy difficulty versus the AI.

Here is an animated gif of my successful campaign as the Germans, with standard (historical) starting positions:

This game ran from 22nd of June till 1st of November 1941, when I took Moscow (the game ends with a german victory when you capture Leningrad, Moscow, and Rostov (with Kharkov also being under german control).
What is most interesting about this is the additonal layer of operational decisions and the personal relationships and the politics involved in this endeavour. I would very much recommend this game. It's not perfect, but still very good entertainment and it strikes the right balance between complexity and playability.

If anybody is interested in a PBEM, I would be up for it, I can play both sides.

Ditto, jumped in and bought it today. (Now remember my precious, we're not to tell the wife we spent money on ANOTHER game!!)

Been looking at this series for a while, liked the look of the previous 2 but the addition of personality management (for want of a better term) really sold me. It's the first game I've ever seen that recreates the special "political" issues both high commands had to deal with on the Eastern Front.

No-one can really understand the war in the East without understanding the special constraints put on both sides by their political leadership. (Hell the entire course of the war was dependant on this weird political interference in the war.)

I know, the idea of PBeM with this game is soooooooo tempting. Hmmmmmmmmmm OK I'm definetely not telling the wife it has PBeM options :(

(It's gonna be another of those, just 1 more turn, I'll just sort out that attack there ....ring "What do you mean I'm late for work!!!!)

Hmmmmm yes another Timesink game!!! Dunno why they are sooooooo tempting. (this is why the wife hates me buying new games. "But you've been sitting there playing for 4 hours today! What do you mean you've not started yet!" me: "I'm reading the manual" ;))

Yeah -- this IS a game where it's probably a good idea to actually READ the manual...LOL.
