Field of Glory 2 - New Player Aid

I've had FoGII for several months and I'm having trouble getting into it. I'm a long time wargamer but don't have any other ancient wargames. I know its a great game but I think maybe I'm going about getting started wrong. Can anyone give me any advice?

Play H2H?
Also, take a look at any of @Rico 's campaigns. I find a nice little campaign is more interesting.
If you want to play a couple of mirror battles, I'm your huckleberry.
Ps. I much prefer Medieval but Ancients is fun

That's the attitude, because he is arguably the best FoGII player on FGM.
I've never really even come close to beating him.
Well, there was this one time, but then the game moved to turn 2.

@Probus Oh, I suggest you stay tuned and sign up for the next Rico tournament.
Playing PvP in a tournament has more pressure to win then just other friendly games.
Sure, it's just bragging rights but it adds another competitive level that is great fun.
