Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45

Bah...totally wrong scale for my taste, several divisions in few hexes, surely the Battle for the Bulge and the Italian Campaign will be pretty scripted.
I played WitE and it was rather boring, beautiful OOB but the IGO-UGO system like a boardgame really hurt the game, even the old TOAW was better because if you make an action with a unit than all units spent the same amount of time, in WitE you can move a unit, attack and then move another unit to exploit the hole, think about this situation with all units around the map and the best palyer is the one that find the best combo.

Moreover is the game with the most gamey and ahistotical defence and attack ever seen, red carpet, HQ build up, chessboard and so on; strongpoint doesn't work because every turn is weekly per 10 km per hex

Be aware when the game will be released, WitE testers never end a full campaign, only AI vs AI, in fact this game has soffered lot of problems with balance, now I don't know but given that I don't want to play it anymore I miss the last news.

I actually agree with your points about IGO-UGO, also if you're just going by the forums for WitE, there are a lot of gamey exploits available .. since it's a game.
People with much more time on their hands than either you or me will always come up with strategies and exploits for any game system. ;)

Let's see how this one turns out, at least they are trying to improve things with a new Air War concept and changes in the Logistics, both of which should be quite important.

Btw, I have no real vested interest in this, I just came across the announcement by coincidence and thought it would be interesting for the crowd over here.

Oh yes, but what I mean is that to setup an effective defence you have to do gamey move :)
I'm not saying occasionaly players doing gamey move, I'm saying that if you use historical defence you cannot stop the German therefore you need the chessboard and so on.

The game is not a dog of course, but IMHO the scale chosen is totally wrong, they want to do a War in Europe but even a boardgame is more historical, and I know this word is relative because it is a game but still.
The OOB is impressive, the combat system is very very detailed but then you can move all units around the map as you wish, if you create a hole the enemy cannot react therefore strongpoints are useless.

Sorry it wasn't a personal attack or criticize your post, simply my expectation was so high that when it come out I had a big disappointment :(

Surely lot of people are happy about it, but see this kind of defence is a pain for my eyes, unfortunately this is the only good one in this situation:

No worries, I just wanted to make clear that I'm not here to defend the games. And I didn't take your post as an attack on or criticism about myself, so everything is fine. :)

Agreed, this looks absolutely horrible.

OH my eyes, it hurts

just my two cent as WITW betatester.

Who played the eastern version probably will find this new release more appealing, more new features, just a few:

- better and deeper air planning system
- realistic naval warfare
- moving and creating depots helps to a more effective supply net
- battle combat calculator refined
- statistics, a lot

These games require a lot of attention to the operational aspect of the conflict and I found it one of the best historical accurate wargame I have ever played.

big errors lead to big defeats.

edit:
I don't want to hurt no one, but this is not a 'beer and pretzel' game like Panzer Corps

Unfortunately the scale is wrong for my taste, they can improve lot of details or secondary mechanincs (like AIR warfare) but, at the moment, nothing can remove horrible defense like the previous one. :(

I have been part of the beta project and I own "War in the east".
You could setup a game, not care about side, and then send/drop it to me.

I don't like the game for the scale chosen 10km/weekly (and of course it's me), but even if the price is not cheap I think is fair (only 5$ more then WitE).
The download version is 80$.
