graphic card up grade question

Gigabyte GTX 460 OC 1GB GDDR5 OC Edition Dual DVI HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card thinking of changing to this card .I have at the moment 8800 512mg gtx card pci e.

any thoughts. regarding CM games
 
to be hones t mate, i dont think you can do much wrong with graphics cards CM wise.
but as a rule, google the name of the product and check a few tech forums / game forums to get an indication if its any good.

thanks for the info, the reason I ask is that the card at the moment I cant play CMBB- CMAK the graphics are all messed up.
 
ok. i used to have the 8800gtx 1gb. if i remember correctly, there is something with those nvidia cards. let me scratch my head and think for a mo
 
Ahh, i think the solution was to ALT-TAB in and out of the game when you fire her up. I vaguely remember doin this?

I know there was a lot of trouble with the 8800 series and open GL drivers ect.

At the moment I have not tried it, because I uninstalled the games. But reading the forums it sounds that the 8000 series card has called loads of problems. So I might wait until I put a new card in my PC the prices are not to bad £170.00 for the card.
 
Have you upgraded your operating system lately? That will surely screw up both CM games.
I tried upgrading my system with a hot graphic card, cause over-heating issues..switch back to my 9500 GT card all is good now LOL
 
No I installed the games on this pc which is windows 7 64 , with 6 gig of ram and intel quad chip
 
Have you updated both CMBB and CMAK with the vista patch. If not you can download the upgrade for both from battlefront. Thats will solve your graphic problem. Far cheaper than purchasing a new card. Each update is $5.00 each. I had the same issue, when I purchased a new computer with system 7/64bits
 
They are charging for updates? That's ridiculous.
I have Win7, and regular patches and everything works ok with Nvidia and Ati.
 
Maybe you Zaraza can help Bidermann with his problem. I heard there a way around the patches, it didn't work for me.
After reinstalling CM's on my new computer, none of them would work for me. Had the same issue as Bidermann.
So, Yes I pay for both patchs from battlefront. I was very gladly that someone took the problem to rewrite the code for both games so I could still play them.
In my mind $5 was cheap, to keep CMBB and CMAK functioning on my new computer with win7/64. Otherwise I was screwed, since only my older laptop at work could operate both CM games.

Agreed, normally I wouldn't paid for a patch, but for CM...I love CM games...I lower my standard and pay for both patchs.
 
I wrote about graphics issues before and how to fix them - for Nvidia chips. I posted screenshots of Nvidia Control Panel and brief explanations.
It worked for me, and i cannot guarantee that it will work for anyone else.
 
I don't know, cant find it.
Here is a short version...

Go to the nvidia control panel, select "Manage 3D settings" and select "Program settings" tab.
Look for CM in drop down list.
If it isn't there, add it manually.
NOw, change settings marked red to their values.

That works at my system...

You can do this in Global settings to, but it will alter settings for all games, not just CM.
