Say hello to all you guys here.I'm from China, and actually not a good English user.. As I said in my first thread,if anyone get confused by my words, point it out and let me try to explain..
Since I've been playing Total War:The medieval II:The Kingdom for almost 3years,I guess I'm not really a new wargamer.Compared with Total War:Shogun,I prefer the knights assaulting and swordsman slashing rather than the ranged shooting which really cannot make an adrenaline surge..
In fact I found a forum about modern war game occasionally,in which it mentioned not only the FPS game like Call of Duty or Medal of Honor, but also the turn based tactical simulating game like Combat Mission. It's said that Combat Mission is almost the best game in the tactical simulating category. After read couple of threads of the game intro,I decide to participate.I downloaded a SKIDROW version to try,as you know...Yes,I always get SKIDROW version of games which I'm not sure whether it worth the money before I play it for a while.Anyone here do the same as me ?or all of you buy it?
And what I want to say is that, this game is just fantastic! It simulates WW2 so realistic that I've never even dreamed before...In my memory the tactical game is just like Red Alarm or Assault or so...I think I will not have time to play Total War for a long while...
So I started to read manual, play tutorial campaign, search for teaching videos, then I found here..
These days I've been fighting with ai,learning tactics from videos, trying to become a modern war armchair general,as the nextdoor forum name..Hope I could join you in online game soon...

Welcome aboard Mate!
Don't worry about your language skills, so far they appear to be pretty good. In fact, English is my 2nd language as well, American being my mother tongue.
Where do you live? I live in the middle of America, in a place called Arkansas, (pronounced...Arken saw) Central time zone.
You are correct in your assessment of the CM series, and when you're ready to take the next step in your progression, you will find many excellent gaming companions here.

I live in Beijing now,and no plan of going abroad so far...So maybe our feet are face to face now, despite thousands kilometers earth and rocks...

Hello Gyeon, welcome to THE FEW GOOD MEN!

Good to have you with us! ;)

Joining this community was the right decision because Combat Mission is at it's best when played against other humans
- but in our download section you will also find a lot of new scenarios to play against the AI.

Please also have a look at our campaigns (tournament section) - some are based on quick battles, others on scenarios.
There is plenty of stuff to check out and a lot of good people and reliable players to meet! :)

Battle for normandy. These two days I've played 2 campaigns and found it not very easy to get a total victory in every battle...so what do you guys think about this?when fighting with ai,do you always try to get a total win or just feel ok on a muddling through?

In my opinion the AI is OK for beginners. Having some experience with Shogun and being familiar with WW2 weapons it probably will not take you long to start spanking it at will. Not much of a challenge after a while. But it is all in how you play it. I usually play as slow as possible (unless the scenario limits you) to try and minimize casualties. If I take some I stop and apply medical before moving on. No man left behind. This makes the AI scenarios and campaigns more challenging.

I used to visit warezbb on a regular basis to do the same. But when my rapidshare membership ran out I had some trouble dl some files. 5 or 6 files one by one I just do not have the patience. If a game really looks interesting I research it and then just buy.

Theatre of War and Achtung Panzer are two other WW2 games that I enjoy. They are NOT turn based and you cannot rewind turns to really get down and watch the action. Very big negatives in my eyes. But they do offer a couple nice things that CM does not. Two different beasts so dont expect them to compare.

Medical care doesnt get you man back to battlefield, right?they will disappear.I do the same as you to fight as slow as I can,but some situations confuse me.that is,if a open grass ground in front of you that you have to move through, but the tall grass block your LOS that you can only see half the distance of the grass area length(or depth?),and cannot be sure if there are enemy infantry out there,or just in the woods beyond the grass area.Would you call for a support fire to bombard this area?or just send a scout team to move to contact?
I ask this because in the last battle I played yesterday,I sent 2 squads forward for recon, and spoted a couple of enemy infantry soon.I thought that would be no more enemy there, and I really didnt want to leave my troops in open area for too long time.so after my scout team got casualty,I pushed the other squads of the plt forward with 2 halftank to suppress and kill, but in half a minite there appeared a whole plt or more enemy infantry and 2 tanks...It seemed they hide themselves very well and kept silent until my main troops appear. They had successfully made a sudden cross fire upon my men,I just didnt have time to retreat...I think this is indeed an ambush..2 halftanks were destroyed soon by the enemy tanks, and my plt got heavy casualty.I think if I had called for support fire to cover that area, the result would be much better. But that is just wise after the event. So if you meet this situation, what would you do?Wait for the scout team to spot all the enemy?but may be the team would be all get killed before that,or just lose morale and run away. The area is large enough for my men to take maybe more than 20 sec to get through in a quick move.

Banzai charge?Like the Japanese did in WW2?You realldy have did this? I dont think the soldiers in the game get so strong morale to charge in face of enemy fire....they would retreat uncontrollable...and cause more casualty...

well...so what will u actrually do in this situation? It seems I cant move forward without many casualty....
