Hitler's Stealth Fighter - Horten 229

Just watched this National Geographic TV program on how these 2 brothers Walter and Reimar HORTEN.

How amazing was this thing, apparently they tested it against the ME-262 and it outperformed it in every aspect.

The program focused on the guys who built the F-117 and B-2 concept models making a life size replica on the Horten 229. It was built to mimic the performance characteristics against radar of the time. It performed outstandingly and would have spelt trouble for the Allies if it had entered service.

You know the Germans technology before and during the war was supreme, I remember when I was Kid back in before the war there toys were brilliant....It is a terrible shame it all was misused as we know

It was a terrible shame, imagine what they could have produced given the chance.

From what I have heard and seen, the DIDN'T think about making the plane a stealth fighter but simply built upon their own already proven design. The first Horten to ever flow was a wooden saiplane not that much different from the 229. They simply refined it and out came the 229 - and advanced design fighter plane which probably would have taken until 1946 to become ready for series production.
