How I spent the Wuhan Coronavirus quarantine . . .

By popular demand (well, @Buckykatt asked for it) I am posting a few pictures of what I've done while in self-quarantine confinement. I invite others to do the same.

I've been sitting on a couple shoe boxes full of unpainted 25mm military miniatures for over a decade. I just never got around to them. While I started to paint them over a year ago, the pace has been slow. With the Covid-19 isolation measures in effect around me, I have more free time for painting miniatures again.

This first picture shows 25mm Greek hoplites. I started them before the Wuhan Coronavirus started to spread but Covid-19 protocols provided additional hours for me to complete them well ahead of my intended schedule. For gamining pursposes, in FOG they are Heavy Foot Offensive Spears; DBA classifies them as SPEARS. There is a 3-figure cavalry unit in the back as well.

This second picture shows 25mm Thracian infantry. On the left are Thracian Peltasts. On the right are Thracian Dii Tribesmen. In FOG, they list out as Medium Foot light spearmen. In DBA, they are considered AUXILIA.

While I'm about to start painting a 25mm Maccabean Judean army, my wife has started to mention that this would be a fine time to prime and repaint our four kitchen chairs!
My hope is that the local Sherwin Williams stores will be closed when we call around tomorrow. :whistleo:

So, what are all ya'll up to yourselves?

Hey,

How did you know what all the staff going into school tomorrow were going to look like............:ROFLMAO:

Still working at the moment and will keep at it until things change. When its finally time to be locked down I'm getting a twenty yard roll off dumpster and doing a top to bottom spring cleaning of the house. Both the attic and basement are home to three generations of crap that I'm tired of living with. Also need to replace some shingles on the roof that came loose during one of the winter storms and then maybe a window or two depending on what I can get my hands on.

Sounds like a good use of time. I think I will start the de=cluttering process myself...

Looks nice @Badger73 I wish I had the patience to do that sort of thing. My sons and I did some painting of the units for the game “Spacehulk” years ago but that’s about it for me.

I wish I had cut the grass today, but my machine was in a Black & Decker workshop three weeks ago, and I was informed on Friday that it has no solution. And to make matters worse this quarantine prevents me from going out to buy a new one since the gardening businesses are closed.
There was no other option than to resort to Netflix, rehabilitation exercises for my wife, and my saturated children from Play Station.

I once bought and painted an entire 2000 point Dwarven army for Warhammer Fantasy in the early 2000s. I did it because an old army chum of mine wanted to meet me in LA for the big Warhammer Tournament (something Games Workshop used to do, basically a convention). Played I think 4 games, and ended up placing something like 50someish. Considering there were around 200 participants, I didn't feel bad at all. Won 1, Drew 2, Lost 1. But my proudest accomplishment was scoring an average placement in the painting category. I had never painted miniatures before, so this was great.
By the way, Ironbreakers rule!

You need a goat. What's up with your kids not letting you have a shot at the Playstation. Oh wait, neither does my son, so I get it. Stay safe Louis.

Thanks for your kind words, @Josey Wales. They'll never be museum worthy but my goal was always to field military miniatures which stand up well on a gaming table.
The ironic thing is that I'll never play these figures myself. I inherited several shoe boxes of unpainted figures from a friend who left the hobby decades ago. They've been sitting in storage ever since. Two years ago, my younger sister who lives across the country from me, mentioned that her youngest son (my nephew) was an avid gamer. She joked that it alarmed her to see how much he might turn out like me . . .

I found out that he is an avid gamer indeed, so I passed on my already painted miniatures to him last year and started painting these figures for him to inherit as well. I suppose I could have tried selling everything but I didn't want to hassle with that and, frankly, I would have quickly soured on being held hostage to painting for someone else. As it is now, these are more a labor of love for a family member who appreciates it.

Anyway, here's a small unit of Judean Slingers I was able to finish quickly due to in-home confinement. These are the last figures I expect to paint for while because . . . (see below)

. . . the retail Paint Store was open last Monday. It was stocked with the kind of primer and type of colored paint needed to spruce up our kitchen chairs. The only painting I'll do in the foreseeable future will be under my wife's close scrutiny and supervision. If I had only waited until tomorrow to check, the store would be closed under government orders as a non-essential business from midnight tonight and I could then spend my time painting Judean Thureophoros instead. Quarantine is cruel, says I.

So, my first week of self-quarantine ended with painting the four (4) kitchen chairs at my wife's behest. They suffered the wear and tear of six beagles over thirty years. The legs and struts were banged and worn. A coat of primer and paint spruced them up.

Before . . . and After

Upon completion she opined that maybe we should have gone with a darker green and painted the back spindles as well. :censored:
I, in my most loving husband voice responded that the paint store is now closed as a non-essential business and that we should give ourselves some time getting used to them before deciding to do the spindles too. Let's see how long I dodge the inevitable . . .

I expect to resume painting miniatures tomorrow. What are the rest of you up to?

Managed to dodge the self quarantine by being a key worker at the moment, but after the school holidays (next two weeks), I may well find myself at home for two weeks so anticipate that I may find that "Management" will have drawn up a list of "light duties" for me to do........( for that, read.......begging to go back to work for a rest)...

There's a Home Depot near here that actually ran out of paint.
Guy said that was the first time ever.

Me, I'm cleaning/organizing my basement.
It's a utilitarian basement, not one for living in, and I can't believe the amount of shyte we've filled it with lo these 30 some odd years.
Sometimes I feel a bit like an archaeologist.
I'm shocked and surprised by the things I'm finding from the mid to late 20th century.
