Just saw a documentary about the sinking of the Royal Oak on the History Channel.

Two things I found vey impressive and moving:
  • the stories of the survivors about shipmates they swam with in the water and who gave up due to the cold and fatigue
  • the anual ceremony when Royal Navy divers hoist the white ensign above the wreck of the Royal Oak to commemorate te 833 crewmembers whos were killed in the attack.

Strangely enough Günther Prien, the German U-boat commander, made such a strange account of the attack in his memoirs, with so many inaccuracies that people in the British army thought it was all a hoax and conspiracy theories emerged...
