This is a Eyal, was created by Israel to grant views over great expanses of terrain in the days before cheap drones.
This Sherman had its turret removed, and was installed with a hydraulic system capable of raising and observation device to a height of 27m.

At the top of the hydraulically operated arm was a small platform that held the observation crews. I

The system, that was engineered by ''EYAL'' Industries was reguisitioned by the IDF for use as a mobile look-out post along the Suez-Canal front, from the War of Attrition to the Yom Kippur War (1973)

With additional armor. One of the earliest forms of composite armor, seen here fitted to a Sherman tank's hull and turret sides. It was tested to see its ability at stopping shaped charges, like the Panzerfaust.
The armour, called HRC, contained different materials, including quartz gravel, wood flour and gravel. It proved effective against shaped charges, even more so than the equivalent weight of steel. However, it was not as effective against kinetic projectiles.
