Im deadly serious... I have also added a new layer to registration. Namely they have to verify their email address prior to being allowed access.

So guys dont welcome new members until they post.

Ok new plans are in place.

Instead of 7 days for first post new members now have 24 hours (advised of this when they join).

Members have to validate their email address prior to being allowed to post.

3 month rule still in place. Log in once every 3 months to keep account open. (advised of this when they join).

We DO NOT welcome members until they post themselves.

New area made for new members.

Lets see how this unfolds... honestly though..., if I didnt delete these 'ghost' members our membership would be sitting in the thousands.... makes me wonder about sites with huge membership... are they 'ghost' members?

I just googled "Rita Ewan" and see that he/she has just registered on about half a dozen assorted forums within the last few days, eg a Japanese forum, a Kids forum, a Helicopter enthusiasts forum etc, there are a lot of "welcome new member Rita Ewan" posts scattered around them, but he/she hasn't yet posted in any of the forums.
Probably just a bored young kid joining as many forums as possible for a laugh..

HAHA... I did the same thing earlier. What you find is it is actually a person... they take a contract from a company .. say 'wedding gifts.com' and they basically sign up on loads of forums and wait for an ideal opportunity to post about the website wedding gifts.com. Some are stupid enough to put adverts in their signature.
