I’ve been contemplating putting together a new tournament.

The last one “Scouts Out” tournament was an all meeting engagement tournament so this time I was thinking of an all probe tournament. (The “Probe This” tournament?)
Perhaps after that an all Attack, then an all Assault tournament but we can discuss that at a later date.

This would again have four rounds of tiny or small probe scenarios, two Allied probes and two Axis probes. And again, due to the possibility of a scenario imbalance there would be two winners, the player with the highest combined Allied score and the player with the highest combined Axis Score.
This time, to discourage people from dropping out, I thought I would discard the lowest score and add only a players three highest scores.

In building the first scenario I have taken a suggestion from a player in the first tournament, forgive me if I don’t remember your name, and added “Unit Objective(s)” along with terrain objectives,
This is unique to me because I have neither played nor created a scenario before with unit objectives.

There is a couple of issues I would like your thoughts on.

The first and foremost is a lesson learned from the Scouts tournament.
Which game or games to use?
It took me by surprise that not everyone has every game.
Crazy right? ;)

I’m going to start a poll and get a feel for whether to use just CMBN which I think everyone has or CMBN and another game which I would assume would be Fortress Italy or Final Blitzkrieg.

Also, I was thinking of putting out call to scenario designers to create a scenario for the tournament.
It is a great way to have a scenario play tested and to receive feedback to create a well-balanced scenario you can up load to the Scenario Depot and become a “Scenario Author” (If there isn’t all ready perhaps there should be an FGM ribbon for this)
The problem with this is it may be that a scenario author for obvious reasons could not play in the tournament or at least not in the scenario he designed.
I'm thinking a designer could play in the other three scenarios having used the scenario he designed as the dropped lowest score scenario.

Any other thought or ideas?

Have all the games. Can take part as participant or assist with tournament as needed.

Don't forget to vote in the Poll at the top....
I should have said which you "want" to.

Thanks Joe, I'll let you know.
This one will be a little less complicated then the last braniac idea I had. Ha!

Yeah, I should have said which combination you have or would like to play in.
(New Tournament +1 minute and screwed up all ready.)

I see this as a two game tournament if possible. Two probes, one Axis - one Allied each.

I changed the poll to unlimited amount of choices so feel free to chose one or all.

The goal here would be to get 16 players minimum.
We had 20 last time.

Probes are basically just really weak attacks that get points for spotting enemy units, right?

Probes are attacks with a smaller ratio of attacker to defender, about 1.45 to 1.
To compensate a probe does not have to go deep in to enemy controlled areas to gain terrain objectives.
Terrain objectives are the vast majority of probe type scenarios.

I've never played with "Unit Objectives" before so I don't know if just spotting an enemy unit is an option.
Interesting idea though.

Ok, I thought probes were when a weak recon force tried to advance and make the enemy reveal its defences in a certain area. So that the defenders could easily crush the attackers, but if they used all their forces, they'd lose because of the intel gained by the other side.

Maybe I just invented a new game mode :)

When I play a QB I like to play probes because it gives the defender some kind of chance. Put a bit of a time limit on things and it can be a fair fight.

You mean the attacker usually has the advantage? That's funny, I find the opposite, and I usually play defender in attack QBs. But then again I play CMBN with its ample bocage, and CMFB with all the forests, so maybe that affects things too. On a Russian open steppe map, defending against a lot of tanks would be hard.
