CAP - Civilian Air Patrol
"During World War II, CAP was seen as a way to use US civil aviation resources to assist the war effort, as an alternative to the land route. The organization undertook many missions including anti-submarine warfare, border patrol and courier services. During the last world conflict, the coastal patrol carried out by CAP determined flight missions for 24 million miles, in which 173 enemy U-boats were discovered, 57 attacked, 10 hit and two sunk, dropping a total of 83 bombs and depth charges . After the war, the CAP death toll was 64 duty casualties."
