Hello there!
I'm new. I'm Kaunitz from Vienna and wanted to say hello. As you can tell by my avatar-picture, my interest was originally strictly confined to a niche topic in the anglo-american oriented wargaming world: the Silesian Wars in mid-18th century. And it's still a fascinating topic, especially given that most media-portrayals and wargaming-rulesets give you but a quite distorted idea of warfare in that era (and given that most of the german literature has a strong borussian bias, neglecting the importance of small war).
Anyway, I've always been fascinated not just by the cruel aesthetics and extreme sensations of war, but first and foremost by the ideal and complex competitive game-situation it tends to create: two opponents with conflicting interests, all means are allowed, good luck. I like to analyse situations and break them down into their components to come up with a well-founded plan.
Unfortunately, there are not a lot of games out there that feature all the components to create this ideal competitive game-situation I was looking for. Mind you, I'm not speaking about fast paced reaction games (real time strategy, where hand-eye coordination is a key factor), but games in which anticipation and thinking is essential. So, when I discovered the Combat Mission series, I was in heaven. Originally, I had no clue about WWII warfare at all. But as the CM games are so intriguingly designed and offer all the components I was looking for, they slowly sucked me into this era. So here I am now. Looking forward to some interesting games!
I own CM:FB (4.0), CM:BS (3.0), CM:RT (3.0), CM:FI+GL (3.0). Further additions and updates will surely follow. Apart from CM games, I also like to play AGEOD titles and Command Ops 2.
