Re....External Hard Drives..Question

Doesn't slow down startup, bu it's not necessary to leave it connected all the time unless you plan on using it permanently. I unplug mine whne I don't use it and thus reduce wear and probability of someone accidentally stepping on it. :biggrin1:
Apart from that it functions exactly like a regular drive.
 
exactly, if you're just using it as backup space (IE duplicating everything you have on your PC) then leave it disconnected and turned off when not in use, will make it last longer. If you're just using it as extra storage then just leave it on

in case my computer becomes infected with a virus. Then I use it the rebuild my hard drive after reformatting it if I have too.
