These steps are Easy campaign

Greetings fellow Combat Mission fanatics,

I’m thinking of creating a monster campaign called “We Band of Brothers”. It will be a campaign spanning all 3 base games (CMBN, CMMG and CMFB). This campaign will follow the footsteps of Easy company 506th PIR during their campaign in Europe starting from June 5th 1944 up until February 1945. In order to create this I’m looking for a team:

  • 3 map creators (level awesomeness). I mean those maps from CMFB are freeking awesome. Be of that type of level (or a bit less) :D

  • 4 scenario scripter’s who know how to script a scenario and campaign (because I can’t)

  • 1 historian who can search for OOB’s for both sides and create the storyline.

  • I’ll create maps, help with the OOB’s and storyline.

  • All maps will be checked by the rest of the team to put the dots on the i :)

If you think you can fill one of the above role’s please contact me.

  • Tell what role you think you can handle

  • (optional) show some sort of resume of your (previous) work with scenario building

I don't have access to the BFC forums but I would be interested in assisting. I started a Foy map in CM:FB until I realized the area is already covered by one of the Master Maps (and associated QB map). Happily, my map seemed fairly similar.

I've been fooling around with some actual 1:25,000 maps of the Ardennes that are freely available online and getting some ok results. I'm not finding a lot of incentive to push and finish the Bulge scenarios I've started - something like this, with deadlines and others waiting, would probably be more satisfying.

Is this still going ahead?

Glad to have you aboard mate. I can put you down as a scenario creator?

The above is an example of the way Gentlemen solve message board issues. Nicely done @Dutch Grenadier @A Canadian Cat and @eniced73 . I would hate to see our merry group of FGM deslove into a rabble. And I know that @Bootie wouldn't allow that to happen.

Dutch. Put me down for one of the testers please.

Thanks DT and you're request is noted.

Yes, sounds like fun. Let me know how I can get started.

Well you can search for any maps that are already there regarding any of the battle's Easy company fought.
For example: Brecourt Manor, Foy ect... If there are any let me know and link them so I can download them to to see if we can use them or if we need to build our own.

Do you have any experience with scripting or just map building like I do :)

Oh, I've done scripting, which isn't to say I'm good at it. The latest tools in the version 3.0 game engine take some getting used to, and the documentation that comes with the game isn't great. Luckily others ask the same questions I have on the BFC forum.

I really don't understand anything about scripting :D
within the next few days I have more things worked out. Got some many ideas in my head. Now I just need to put them in order :p

Secrets I learned from my experiences with the 'Lions of Carpiquet' campaign and the scripting process.

- Plan out the campaigns well in advance in Excel / Word / Paint -> whatever works for you. You'll be tweaking it as research and work progresses.
- The Campaign Script file itself should only be worried about to the very end of the project because of dot point 1. Don't try to constantly update a the Campaign text file, it's not easy to follow while things are in motion as the scenarios are being built.
- Write the individual scenario briefings and the overall campaign briefings first. Read them in order and ensure the a constant narrative is being followed throughout. Trust me, even with 'Carpiquet' which only spans around 36 hours in total there were cases where there was 'leaps' in the narrative between scenarios or where a certain scenario outcome wasn't being reflective in the following battle. Again, why the structure of the campaign will change as the individual scenarios are being created.

I can send you examples of my planning documents and the campaign text file if you like. The latter especially will at least give you a template to work from for CMBN / CMFB when the time comes. Can't off ongoing support but if you want someone on the outside to chip in feedback / advice / editing then just let me know. (Also currently have a dead modem at home so may need to wait until next week. :D )

I'm willing to give a helping hand with map making as that's about as far as my talents will go at the moment but more than willing to learn the ropes. Take it your going to set up a google doc so all involved can add stuff when needed

google docs is nice for adding notes for all to see also it is real time edit. you used google docs? worth using along side dropbox
