War By The Numbers

The German Panzer IV was the most-produced tank model of World War 2 with some 8,553 Panzer IVs of all versions beingbuilt during World War II, with only the StuG III's 10,086 vehicle production run exceeding the Panzer IV's total among Axis armored forces.

It is also the only tank design that was in active service on the first day and last day of World War 2.

Wow. Talk about a one sided battle.

Here's the what if question:
Should Germany have spent all their effort into the mass producing and refining the Panzer IV as their go to tank instead of constantly churning out new and 'bigger' models with teething problems (early Panthers, Tigers etc)?

It's well known that the Soviet Union suffered the most horrendous casualties of the war by a long mile compared to the Western Allied nations. The one region that suffered the most in terms of military and civilian casualties combined was Belarus. Best estimates state that a little over one in four residents of the region at the outbreak of the war perished before the end. In the Ukraine it was a little less than one in five.

A mostly forgotten front in World War 1 was Lybia, where in 1915 the local Senussi tribes rose in revoltin sympathy with the Ottomans and the Central Powers against the Italian colonial forces and also launched frequent raids across the border into Egypt as well.
In fact, the revolt was such a successful distraction for the Central Powers, it tied up at times up to 30 000 British and Commonwealth troops for over a year to guard the western frontier (also in fear of local Egyptian uprising) -- troops desperately needed elsewhere.
