I'm about ready to leap into the ARMA world and am curious about what controllers people are using. Reading online, it looks like a the X-Box controller is the preferred device. However, I am not a console guy and am curious what else people are using. I've created this small poll to make it easy to provide an answer but feel free to reply with your comments. Thanks.

Im a mouse and keypad guy. I cant imagine a controller or joystick giving you the minute targetting variations necessary in this game. Admittedly it may be easier to control the planes but overall keyboard and mouse all the way.

Still struggling to get my head wrapped around this game, so to say I am controlling anything is questionable.

A gaming mouse is a good option. Did look into using my cougar joystick for infantry movements but a little research showed that keyboard and mouse is the way to go.

Crazy options with button control. Turns your run of the mill two/three button mouse into a work horse. Takes some getting used to but after configured pretty slick.

XBOX CONTROL!!!! No way. I play some xbox but using it on a PC, nah. Way too hard to aim in my opinion. Good old keyboard and mouse here.

Mouse and a Nostromo http://assets.razerzone.com/eeimages/products/59/razer-nostromo-gallery-1.png
VAC and a microphone for voice commands when controlling AI, Joystick, throttle and pedals for flying
and a self made IR Led rig for headtracking ( both while infantry and vehicles ) using Tracknoir
Fancy bit of kit, kudos. ;)
I got a Xbox controller a couple of days a go and played the 'show case' missions of helicopters and aerial battle. Felt like a whole new game. I'm still having trouble landing choppers :)

@nathangun
Oh yeah. An Xbox controller? Does that work for flying better than the mouse and keyboard? I will have to break mine out.

Ironically I actually usually fly choppers using the keyboard and mouse instead of the fancy joystick and throttle!

I use the mouse and keyboard and find flying much easier after rebinding the default mouse left and right actions. For some reason by default it is bound to Turn left and right instead of cyclic left and right. Rebinding it makes landing helicopters much easier.

I tried using my Sidewinder Pro 2 joystick but since by default it doesn't bind the peddles I found it irritating and haven't gotten around to setting it up correctly yet.
