It would depend largely on timing and keeping the Americans and Russians out of the war before they could pull it off. Germany had the advantage in the respect that they had the resources of all of Europe to draw on. Britain had the Empire, that's true, but the U-boat wolf packs were making it difficult for Britain to draw in resources from it's farthest outposts. Germany would also have to pull off the invasion and force the British people into submission quickly because they suffered fuel shortages throughout the war. An extended conflict would have swung against them as their fuel supplies dwindled. A fast conquest of the British home islands may have also emboldened the colonies to revolt. The British would have been ill equipped to try to retake the homeland while stamping out the fires that would have been flaring up all over the empire at the same time. They might have retaken Britain from the German's, at the cost of losing the Empire.
