The boys in power made a protocol, to settle differences in numerous little wars. The reason otherwise they might get hurt too. MacArthur tried to settle it the old-fashioned way and got sacked. Eisenhower adjusted his point of view and became a president.

WW III started some time ago it just is not fought WW II style. A similar scenario is Victorian Britain. They flooded the world with Made in England products and expanded their influence with lots of little wars.

20th Century will go down as the century when Europe imploded. It started in Serbia and it ended in Serbia. From 1914-1990 three Empires were finished. German, Austria-Hungary and the Ottomans. The Armistice was just that, the war never officially ended.
