IL STURMOVIK 1946

As a reviewer, I always try to give a balanced view by simply listing a games good points and its bad points, and saying how it compares to other games, then letting people decide for themselves whether they want to try it.
I've played most of the WW1/WW2/Modern computer flight sims that have been released over the past 28 years, and before that I was into Air boardgaming, plus I've read many books about air combat.
As you've seen in this thread, I've given IL-1946 a thorough testing and have come to the conclusion that its gun ballistics are not as good as CFS2's, that's simply my opinion and others might not agree with me, so there's no way of knowing who's right, me or them, ha ha..:)

Like I said it all depends what peoples preferences are, for example some people might like the IL-2 series better graphics, but others might prefer Microsoft Flight Sim 2's better gunnery ballistics..

I thought you were talking about flight sims people are still flying... CFS2 was good, but it's from 2000 and I don't think the community is very active anymore.

Nice to see it's still running. I had it on my drive for 2-3 years if I remember. The original IL2 is from 2001, but cannot compare with the FB/PF version, specially in graphics (textures were 512 instead of 1024) But at the time we were mostly playing 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024 when you had an expensive graphic card...
CFS2 is probably still interesting for people playing online, but for me it lacks the dynamic campaigns (which the original IL2 didn't have either until Starshoy got DGen running as a mod at first, which was then integrated in FB/PF)

Just picked this up from E-bay. .99 cents plus $3.99 shipping:

Just bought a flight stick (Cyborg v.1) and currently i m trying to learn the basics.

Ahhh, newbie.........the word is like magic to my ears. The hobby doesn't have the growth rate of, say, Call of Duty so every body on board counts. I am available if you want some advice, training, loud laughing at your mistakes, anything you need. As Corsaire said, welcome to the realm of the 'Flight Jock' muhahaha

I can't wait to get Saitek X52 system.... I tried it and it works fantastic.... :)

Yeah a total newbie :)
It is usual for me to fire at my comrades when i mistake them for the enemy!!
So far i m having fun with it (having all the help options on to be honest and didnt shot down anything)

Just so it is known. TD has released a video preview of the new patch for IL2, version 4.11 The TBD Devastator has finally made the cut! Granted, it's AI only for the moment but good things are coming. The Yugoslavian IK-3 will also be in as AI. For flyables, the Pe-8 4-engine heavy bomber and the IL-4 will be included, and look beautiful. Also, bomb fusing is being changed to be historically accurate and completely customizable according to nation. German aircraft will even be able to change fuse settings in flight!!! Go on over to M4T for the video and further information.

Thks for the update... If there is one plane I'm not in a hurry to fly, it is the Devastator. This was a real flying coffin !!

Trailer looks good, but not the game... have a look around the forums. I'm not buying until 5 or 6 months when patches and mods have made it playable. (and price is down to 25 Euros...)

Yeah, I am going to wait on this one too. Now don't get me wrong, if someone gave it to me I would accept it, but I wouldn't drop full price for it. My system can't handle RoF very well, so CoD is out of the question. The reviews and forums don't say much good about it at the moment either, great idea, bad execution from what I can tell. On a min requirement system the game is barely playable in a one on one QMB dogfight and that doesn't work for me. I will wait for patches and to upgrade my rig before trying it out. Plus, the only area of operations in the BoB, for Eastern front, mid to late ETO, the med, and the Pacific/CBI IL2 is still the best option.

I'll try to get a review copy of Dover for FGM and surgically analyse it bit by bit..:)

A question for all you IL2 1946 vets, can AI planes in your sqaudron be lost in a thunderstorm? Or can they collide with each other? I recently flew a mission in a thunderstorm, my plane was being blown sideways on take-off even, and I can't be certain what happened, but it appered to me that I lost two wingmates after the dog-fight had concluded when we were forming up to go home. I wish now I had watched or kept the replay. And in the AAR the planes or pilots were not reported as lost. But when it came to landing there were only two of the four planes of the squadron left.
