About Well over a million dollars for the whole combination.

The Prime Mover (tractor) alone is in the region of half a million once fully kitted out $580,000, obviously Kenworth makes the truck itself but the extras added on would be bullbar (25k), PTO and pump (~50k), Icepack (5k), CTI system (not sure, probably 20-30k), signwriting, MTData and associated electronic systems, internal and external cameras and recording equipment, fridge, microwave, inverter, Starlink. I think that's about it.

The trailers pictured are not new, they're about seven years old and were owned by a previous company that I worked for (can probably find the pics in my older postings), but I can see a quad combination like that would be another half a million, if not more.

Edit: Out of curiosity I went and chased down the price for a top of the line 2024 T909, $580,000 brand new! So I guess my numbers are a bit out of date.

Wow, trucking is not just a job, it's a vocation.

It can be just a job for the basic stuff. Something like dry pan, fridge work, or general freight can be gotten into without too much experience or qualifications needed. It pays... ok and can be good as a backup job if you lose your main job for whatever reason, it'll keep the bills paid and you can usually do it on a casual basis.

I've made it a lifelong career choice because at my age I'd take too much of a pay hit if I went and did anything else, not ideal when trying to support a family. While I do have qualifications in earthmoving machinery, I have no experience in that field at all so that'd be a hard transition to make.

Specialisation is where the money is at though, fuel, chemicals, explosives, oversize, anything that requires more qualifications and/or more experience to get into.
Also for rigs the size of these ones it can take several years of licences (Car > HR > HC > MC)* before you can drive them, also your boss is going to want you to have the prerequisite experience before he hands you the keys.

*(Car > Heavy Rigid > Heavy Combination (semi) > Multi-Combination (B-Double to Road Train))
