Operation Konrad - Round 4 General Thread

Hello there fellas,

was there something wrong with the FGM Forum recently ?

I wasnt able to connect for some reason for the recent weeks.
But as I see not much has moved on so far.

Is the operation still running ?

It’s been down for several weeks now Brille. Sadly OPK is looking dead in the water unless someone picks up the reins from OPO. :(

@Guardsman @dkchapuis Thank you both for the update. Well that´s really sad if the operation dies this way.

I guess OnePing still hasn´t give any lifesigns ?! Hope he´s alright....

I didn't receive any response to my email to him and his Facebook still hasn't been updated since the start of May, he seems to post at least once a month or so from what I can see so 3, almost 4, months does seem to be slightly out of the ordinary. I couldn't find an account on Twitter or Instagram and his YouTube channel has been dormant since last year, but he only posted the occasional video on there.

Bit of an update on OPO. i found something that could explain his absence, I won’t post details as that’s up to him if he would like that info shared but it looks like he is alive and well as of a month ago and had RL issues to deal with.

Hopefully he’ll be back with us in due course.

Hello Gentlemen-

First off, my heartfelt apologies for just disappearing and not communicating. There have been some physical and mental reasons for this, but its still a shite thing to do to friends.

Back in late April, my father in law passed away. While working to clean out and repair his house, I fell off a ladder and fractured my back. One surgery and an infection later - with hospital stays - I was really unable to sit at a desk for a few months. Once getting better, I really had to focus on work and family/home tasks given these things were behind and neglected, respectively. And, after being away so long, it was easier to just not come back. Mental health is a strange thing. To top it all off, my mother passed away in August, which has necessitated more time spent on closing out yet another parent’s estate. It’s been one kick in the nuts after another. OnePingOnly’s Series of Unfortunate Events, as it were.

I appreciate the concern from the group.

While I can sit at a computer now and have started playing CM again in solo mode, I do not know yet to what extent I am “back.” Obviously, I left the Konrad campaign unfinished, and had a cool side project I was working on with Chap. I still hold interest in both, but the Konrad had cooled due to my mistakes and was probably near the end of life depending on the outcome of the current Round. I’ll take a look through the results and campaign threads to see if I think it is meaningful to finish, and if so, then determine who is still interested in resuming. I would totally understand if people were not.

More later - after I’ve waded through PMs, Konrad threads, and Dropbox :)

A warm welcome back OPO and very sorry to hear of your awful year, my sincere condolences to you and your family.

I for one would gladly continue the Op K campaign.

Welcome back, OnePing !

I´m very sorry about your loses...sometimes bad things come as a bunch and it kicks you right out of your shoes...
But I´m very glad that you are ok so far ....honestly I almost feared the worst here....

But it is totally understandable for your down time. You have to make priorities and gaming should be the least of your problems right now.
Get well and when you are ready you can start again.

As for Operation Konrad:
I would gladly continue playing no matter how long it takes to fire it up again. I don´t like unfinished buisness with Ivan.

Sorry for your troubles, OPO. Glad to have you back. Ready to jump back into Konrad whenever you are.

It’s been one kick in the nuts after another. :)

I've had this image in my head of you and Hohenfels enjoying a beer together, talking about how much less stressful life is post-FGM. Sorry to hear the reality was far worse.

If the Konrad campaign resumes in any form you can count me in.

Thanks all!
I spent time last evening getting caught up on Konrad. The Round 4 threads made for some interesting reading - and it was also motivating. There were some great battles, there were some hopeless battles, much like real life.

@jackal fought @Brille to a draw in Dorog, eliminating battalions on both sides.
@Drifter Man defeated @Bleskaceq at Germely.
@dkchapuis and @Monty's Mighty Moustache cease-fired at Csakvar about halfway through, with loss of interest being a consideration. Based on how the match had unfolded, I don't have much doubt that this would have been German victory if it had gone full time.
@Spoogles defeated @Guardsman at Osi.
@Shady Side and @Gorst 's game at Balatonfokajar is unfinished with about 20 minutes left. Based on the current match state, it is probable that this would have resulted in a Soviet victory.
@Cargol and @Aurelius ' game on long-suffering Margit Island is unfinished. Based on the current match state, it is probable that this would have resulted in a Soviet victory and occupation of Margit Island.

With that in mind, I updated the campaign map:
Op Konrad -Round 4 End.jpg

Since the Soviet counterattack at Csakvar failed, the Germans can use their "Once per Campaign" option to advance to Bicske.

With all that in mind, and with 3 Rounds left, it does appear that the campaign is still in the balance. So, I am willing to resume if enough players are. I totally understand if folks are just done. Just let me know - and thanks to those that already did so. 6 of 7 respondents to date are "in." I'll give the others some time, as I don't know how active they are nowadays.

I will need to replace one person, and probably 1-2 more. That may take a bit of time and I'll post for this on the main board once I know there is sufficient interest amongst you "core" players.

I have most of the Round 5 maps made/selected and they will just need tweaking based on whether they are Attack or ME's. My goal is to issue smaller maps such that all battles go back to 30 minutes. 45 minutes is just taking too long. (I had a lot of time to just lay flat and think about what I would have done differently for the campaign, so there is ...a lot ;)). If I do another campaign, there is certainly a lot to learn.

I am truly sorry to hear about the losses you and your family have had and to hear about your accident and injury.. I am also very happy to see you active on the forum again.

As for Op Konrad though, I think I will be dropping out. The best I remember @Gorst was well on his way to winning the battle we were playing. Sorry @Gorst when I stopped sending turns, I had a good ideal the whole operation was going on a long pause if not coming to an end, you had put on a very tough defense. From my understanding the outcome of our battle was not going to have any impact on the operation though.

The Operation clearly had tons of behind the scenes work put into it and I am always grateful to anybody that puts time and effort into any map/scenario/campaign/operation/tourney or anything else they share with the community. From a quick look at the responses it looks like there is prolly enough interest out there to complete the operation which I am sure those of you that were in it from the start will be very happy about, win, lose or draw. I will be pulling for my ole German team even though I dropped out on them but I would like to wish both sides the best of luck.

FWIW, I got all the maps for the possible Round 5 options "done" and uploaded. I guess that means I am motivated :).

I also re-read the last rules update. Holy crap are the rules complicated. Who the #$%*^ wrote this thing? . Definitely something to simplify before any future campaign.
