Rinaldi's Screenshots & AARs

I played the red storm (iirc) a bit years ago. Seemed like a reasonably well crafted deep game with well thought out systems. One level above CM, somewhat similar to Command Ops.
The decision /order loop offers interesting options, although I wasn't always fond of the terrain abstractions.

Anyways I liked it but I guess not enough to really commit to it beyond a scenario or two. Or perhaps I just didnt/don't have enough time to deep dive into all the more complicated games attracting my interest.
If I retire early I guess I have plenty of wargame stuff to play :D

Hmm...did a lot of old posts get deleted when the forum got restored? I would think so; well great opportunity for a large update post. I've been back in Canada for a while and have had a great deal more free time than I'd care to admit, so been working through Downfall and getting back in touch with Combat Mission.

Let's start off with (re?)posting two of my favourite screens from my Ride on Riede AAR, which you can read here: https://rinaldiaars.blogspot.com/2024/07/combat-mission-downfall-ride-on-riede.html

I got back into things by playing SeinfeldRule's East of Aachen and then the new Das Hochwasser. A couple of more screenies....and a link to a blog with my AARs and thoughts on why everyone seems to like Volksgrenadiers in wargaming (despite them being a bit :poop:) : https://rinaldiaars.blogspot.com/2025/01/combat-mission-final-blitzkrieg-late.html

And finally, my AARs of Drop Zone P and my own redux of the Steel on Steel scenario, along with my thoughts of what makes a good fictional scenario in the titles. Couple of my favourite screenies, and a link: https://rinaldiaars.blogspot.com/2025/02/what-makes-good-fictional-combat.html

By the by, actually played a good half of these real time. I think I was a teenager with like a 2.0 version of Combat Mission when I last tried that. It's not as grim as everyone had me remembering. I have gone back to turn based though for some of the larger scenarios, bit too difficult to get all the action otherwise.
