ROUND #2 Match ups

@A Canadian Cat any more tips along these lines?
Oh man I don't know. It is one of the few things that I didn't like about the control choices designed in the game.

On big maps that have performance issues I try to watch the turn from high up and not move the camera around. After watching and identifying where there is something going on I'll select a unit drop the camera level 2 or 3 and <tab> jump to the unit. That saves me from moving the camera around with the whole world in view. It seems to make my experience feel better for large maps. On my new(ish) machine this isn't as much of a concern but I still work that way most of the time.

I have no idea why some people with new rigs seem to have worse performance than I do. I just don't get what is happening. I even play the game on a 2k monitor so it is moving more pixels around that many just using HD. Maybe the poor souls suffering the most are running at 4k. I just don't know.

Part of it is I don't give a shit what the FPS is (obviously there are limits here 8FPS is annoying). I care about camera lagginess. I know that some people who complain that the game is unplayable are just measurebating and looking askance at the 20, 15fps measurement. Why do they care I'll never know. However I also know that people are experiencing camera lagginess even at higher FPS rates. That what I don't get. I get smooth camera movement even at lower FPS rate. Even really bad FPS rates the camera is usually pretty good and I just am a little more patient.

I haven't a clue why some people have really bad lag issues - it is a complete mystery to me. I do find it hard to differentiate between the two major categories of people who complain about performance. I try to just point out the known optimization steps and hope that helps them. I try to ignore the "it has to get 90 FPS or its crap crowd" (exaggerated for effect and because I find it frustrating). :D

well... this showed me 1 more thing i did not know about tech....i usually thought of camera lag and fps as the same basic thing... with a lil bit of thought.... it now makes sense to me that they are not......

as for the tech issues i run into from time to time... they are always on really big maps ... usually a lot of elevation changes.. tree cover.. urban.. and lots of units .... along with lots of flavor objects... pre made craters.. turns with tons and tons on top of tons.. of small arms fire seem to trigger it... mostly during deployment phase.. if it happens during a game it usually fixes itself after a turn or 2.... during deployment phase is the most game spoiling one though..... the out of memory crash is a seperate issue that often sorts itself out.. but not always... there does seem to be some rhyme and reason to it.... but i am good to go in 98+percent of games i have tried... biggest change i noticed was when this laptop was gifted to me with NVIDA graphics... all previous ones had AMD... and would play medium sized scenarios with almost no issues.. large was a crap shoot... huge usually not worth trying....

i am going to try your camera trick next time i have an issue with a game though.....

So that means Guardsman will now play kgpanther for their matchup.

Guardman has his setup ready, so we will use that file and send it to kgpanther and provide him the needed password to open it.

You two will need to create a new dropgbox folder or invite your new opponant to the present folder and rename or something along those lines.

kgpanther the file has been sent and i will message you the password.
Roger that

The only problem I have with this scenario is that when I start looking around, sometimes the camera keeps spinning even though I have stopped moving the mouse, the only way to stop it is by clicking the right button, but it is a behavior I have seen in other CM, so I guess it is an engine issue
I have encountered this problem on my Mac. I fix it by selecting the briefing from the menu which goes to the briefing screen and back to the game. The spinning stops.

Oh that's unexpected. nVidia is usually much better. In fact I would simply not consider a computer with and AMD graphics card. They have not done a great job supporting OpenGL - which the game needs.

you said unexpected in this.... if i was not clear i meant there was a huge improvment once i got this laptop with nvida graphics
LOL oh I thought your experience was the other way around.

Yes, nVidia should be much better for playing CM than AMD sorry AMD, big fan but thems the facts.

I think me just posting what file number that everyone is at seems to be a good way to let you all know how your pace in turn rate is going.

So here you go, 10 battles this round here is where we presently stand.

27, 23, 19, 19, 17, 16, 15, 13, 12, 4.

so pretty good except for one battle. (those two old timers must be taking too many naps lately)
