What is this terrain famous for?ANSWER:Charge of Light Brigade

Re: What is this terrain famous for?

The question is about terrain, so not the particular field.

Therefore for what is/are vineyards famous for ? We already learned that it is not (in this question) for making wine. I know of some famous and great parables in the bible about vineyards, but since this is a WW2 gaming community, I presume that is not the right answer either.

Was there ever fought a battle in a vineyard ? Wild guess: Anzio.

Re: What is this terrain famous for?

Phalanx ?

or

pincer as in the battle of Cannae ?

Re: What is this terrain famous for?

Kind of cryptic but I'll give it a shot:
Battle of Lamia?

-

Pincer - The Battle of Cannae is a great example of an encirclement from the flanks w/ fast moving Cavalry. Later known as "the encirclement" to most who have read/witnessed what sort of damage fast moving, mobile troops can do. The old doctrine of the "cannae model" as became known by most in the 20th century, Guderian was one who loved it, Schifflein [Sp] wrote doctrine for it, and the Americans (USA! USA!) came to great understanding with it.

Phalanx was formidable in flat open terrain w/ little obstructions since they could not break ranks and were on foot in large numbers with spears in hand. Thus making them a dangerously saturated and pointy...foe. The Romans were able to fend off the Phalanx (over time), and change doctrine to combat it. Although, they psychology of the Roman Legion during the First & Second Punic wars nearly modeled after Greek doctrine, w/ up-to-date technology of course...Unfortunately for them, they were fighting one of the greatest leaders of all time! Hannibal!
